April is Prevent Child Abuse Awareness Month.
Tiffany Shepard, a case worker with the Department of Child Services says they will be hosting an event Monday Night in Vincennes to draw attention to this problem.
The Pinwheel Garden for Prevention will provide Information to area residents regarding various safety concerns in the community as well as types of abuse and neglect.
The event will be held from 5-to-7 pm at the Washington Christian Center.
In the meantime, Shepard says If you suspect abuse or neglect, call the Indiana Child Abuse and Neglect Hotline at 1-800-800-5556.
She says if you know of a family in crisis reach out to the parents and offer assistance or emotional support.
Last year in Indiana alone there were over 2000 substanitated cases of child abuse reported.
