Ft Wayne facing lawsuits over homeless camp raids, U.S. Chamber endorses Todd Young for Senate

 

FT WAYNE HOMELESS RAIDS

Indiana’s second-largest city faces a federal lawsuit alleging that it is violating the constitutional rights of homeless people by destroying tents, coats and other property seized during periodic sweeps of homeless camps. The lawsuit says Fort Wayne has conducted more than 10 raids on homeless camps since December 2014. The lawsuit was filed on behalf of a homeless man and asks a judge to halt the city’s actions.

INDIANA/KENTUCKY BRIDGE

Construction crews working on a new Ohio River bridge between Indiana and Kentucky have finished work on the hulking, 300-foot towers that will help support its main span. More than 100 cable-stays will be installed on the main-span bridge by this summer as the East End Crossing bridge comes into shape. The bridge will link Utica, Indiana, and Prospect, Kentucky.

TODD YOUNG ENDORSED BY U.S. CHAMBER

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce has endorsed GOP Representative Todd Young for U.S. Senate. The endorsement adds establishment heft to Young’s primary battle with tea party-backed U.S. Representative Marlin Stutzman. Stutzman and Indiana Democrats both challenged Young’s placement on the state Republican primary ballot.

WOMEN’S FINAL FOUR TEAMS ARRIVING IN INDY

The teams competing in the NCAA womens’ basketball Final 4 are arriving in downtown Indianapolis beginning later today (Thursday). Syracuse, Connecticut, Washington and Oregon State are all competing for the Division 1 womens’ National Championship. Meanwhile, Alaska-Anchorage and Lubbock Christian will battle for the Division 2 championship, and Thomas More will take on Tufts for the Division 3 title. The first set of games begin Sunday at Bankers Life Fieldhouse and the National Championship is set for Tuesday night.
