Raising the intersection at 2nd and Niblack Boulevard is proving to be more expensive than city officials originally thought.

City Engineer John Sprague gave an update to the Vincennes Board of Works earlier this week.

Sprague said when working on a project involving CSX Railroad, what they say goes…

Originally, the project was going to cost ($400,000.

Sprague said he received a new estimate from CSX that puts the cost around $850,000.

Sprague indicated that the entire intersection at 2nd and Niblack will be raised about 14 inches.

This is an INDOT managed project, so bidding isn’t scheduled until October.

Utility work is slated to start with in the next 2 months.

Sprague says the project will take a long time to complete due to the complexity of the updates.
