LIBRARY OUTREACH BUILDING

The Knox County Public Library’s Outreach Building may soon be re-purposed for use as a incubator for new businesses.

Tim Gognat and Chris Hostetler approached the Library Board yesterday about converting the building into a collabrative workspace where people can meet to share ideas and office space. Mentors could also brought in to work with individuals on their ideas.

He says such collaborations have been successful in other communities. The group INVIN has also discussed using a portion of the Pantheon Theatre on Main Street for a similar purpose.

Board members were intrigued by the idea but wanted more information as to who would maintain the building and pay for utilities. The Outreach Building which is located across from the Main Library Building on 7th Street has sat vacant for a couple of years now.

LIBRARY FOOD DRIVE

The Knox County Public Library will once again be sponsoring a food drive next month to help needy families.

“Close The Book On Hunger” plans to benefit all Knox County Food Pantries.

Library employee Janet Kitchin says their goal is to help fill the gap left when school lunch programs are closed during the summer months.

She told members of the Knox County Library Board Tuesday that Library patrons have embraced the program. She says for every can of food they bring in

they will receive a dollar off on their delinquent book fees. Or she says individuals can also donate a can of food and receive a one dollar gift certificate for the purchase of a used book item.

In 2014, Kitchin says over 13-hundred food items were collected and distributed among 10 food pantries in Knox County.

The Food Drive begins April 1st and will continue through out the month.

LIBRARY YARD SALE

The Friends of the Knox County Public Library will hold an indoor yard sale this Saturday from 8 AM to 2 PM at the Fortnightly Building in Vincennes, to raise money for the various literacy programs offered throughout the year. Many quality items, including some collectibles, will be for sale. Most items will sell for less than $20, however some items may be priced higher. All sales will be cash only.
