Man charged in officer shooting in Lawrence County, IL

Lawrence County, Illinois authorities report an arrest warrant has been served in connection with the shooting of a Lawrence County, Illinois Deputy.

55-year-old Keith McKinney was arrested in connection with an incident resulting in the shooting of Deputy Kyle Gilmore.  Gilmore fired back and in the shootout, McKinney suffered gunshot wounds to the legs.

The accused has been in an Evansville Hospital being treated for injuries.  He was released Friday and waived extradition and taken to Lawrence County where he was chartged with attempted murder, aggravated battery and unlawful possession of weapons by a felon.

He was appointed a public attorney and his next court date was set for April 5th.  He faces up to 80 years in prison plus an additional 20 for the aggravated factor of using a weapon during the commission of an offense.
