The long awaited Riverwalk Project is expected to get underway by the end of this month.

Vincennes Mayor Joe Yochum says the project has been languishing on the drawing board for over 20-years and has gone through several cost revisions.

The 1-point-1 million dollar project will include a platform area to view the Wabash River along with new shrubbery, trees and street lighting along Culbertson Boulevard between Main and Hart Streets.

The City was awarded an 80/20 matching grant through the Indiana Department of Transportation to pay for the work. The City’s local match will come from EDIT funds.

The project is expected to be completed by late fall. Regal Construction of Newburgh is the contractor on the Riverwalk Project. A pre-construction meeting is set for Monday at City Hall.

Yochum added that the city plans to pursue additional funding to connect the Riverwalk with the levee walkway that will eventually run from the George Rogers Clark Memorial to Kimmell Park.
