Leroy Glenn Cardinal, 80, of Vincennes, passed away at 7:37 AM March 4, 2016 at Good Samaritan Hospital. Leroy was born April 3, 1935, in Vincennes, the son of James C. and Mary Lucille (Bono) Cardinal. He attended Central Catholic High School and served in the Indiana National Guard. Leroy was a devout Catholic and a lifetime member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. For years, he attended Mass daily. Leroy was a retired self-employed truck driver. Through the years, he hauled everything from produce to cattle and hogs.He enjoyed watching Nascar and reruns of Bonanza, Little House on the Prairie, Andy Griffith with Barney, and others. His favorite past time was riding around the country side with best friends, Willy Gordon and Gene Smith.
He is survived by his brother, Harold “Butch” Cardinal and his wife Sarah, of Vincennes; sisters, Suzanne Coffman and her husband Bill, Linda Obermeyer and Ruth Cardinal, all of Vincennes; many nieces and nephews; and many great-nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James C. and Mary Lucille Cardinal; brother, James A. Cardinal; two infant brothers, Ralph and Billy Cardinal; nephews, Bobe Coffman and Steven Obermeyer; sister-in-law, Barbara M. Cardinal; and brother-in-law, Louie Obermeyer.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, March 8, 2016 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held immediately following visitation at 11:00 AM with Rev. Dave Fleck officiating. He will be laid to rest at St. Vincent’s Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. John the Baptist Catholic Church or the Christian Education Foundation.
