Commissioners opt to forego a tax sale, hear an update on feasibility study on county buildings and decide to open up the Treasurer’s Offce on Election Day

NO TAX SALE

The Knox County Commissioner have decided not to have a property tax sale this year.

The goal of the sales is to get the properties back on the tax rolls.

However,  the sales do cost the county money.

County Commissioner President Larry Holscher hope waiting a year will better benefit the community.

Last year the county had 160 properties and only 19 of the 40 that were purchased saw positive results.

Holcher says due to those numbers it’s more cost effective to wait another year to hold another sale.

FEASIBILITY STUDY UPDATE

The County Commissioners recently hired Myszak and Palmer to do a feasibility study of all the county buildings.

They are looking for ways to better utilize the space that the county already has, as well as see if they need anymore.

County Commissioner President Larry Holscher says the main focus of the feasibility study is efficiency.

President of Myszak and Palmer, Andy Myszak gave the commissioners an update on how the the feasibility study is going.

Myszak says they are about half way done with the surveying so far and are on track to finish by March.

Myszak says they will be making a presentation once their surveying is done.

After they give their recommendations it will be up to the commissioners to decide what they want to do with the information.

TREASURER’S OFFICE WILL BE OPEN ELECTION DAY

The Knox County Treasurer’s Offcie will now be open on Election Day.

Treasurer Brenda Hall approached the County Commissioners last night saying many people would like to pay their taxes that day and have asked if the treasures office will be open.

The commissioners agreed that it would benefit the community and made a motion to open the office on election day from 8 AM to 12 PM.

Hall also made a request to have 200 to 300 dollars set in the treasure’s account for change.

Many people pay their taxes in cash and it is causing employees of the treasures office to make several trip to the bank a day.

The commissioners said they they would take the request under advisement for the next meeting.
