Roy L. Meeks, 78, Oaktown, passed away Saturday, February 13, 2016 at Good Samaritan Hospital. Roy was born December 4, 1937, in Knox county, the son of Harold “Shorty” Lee and Nellie (Archer) Meeks. He married Gloria Cook on December 8, 1958. He was the owner and operator of Roy’s Service Station in Vincennes for over 30 years. Roy was a member of the Vincennes American Legion. He enjoyed living at home with his wife and spending time with his kids, grandkids, and great-grandchildren. He was also an Army medic.
Roy is survived by his wife of 57 years, Gloria; children, Van and Kimela (Raymann) Meeks, Cindy (Meeks) Buchanan, Nancy (Meeks) and Tim Plummer, and Deanna (Meeks) and Michael Smith; eight grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Elizabeth “Tib” (Meeks and Harold Moody, Harold “Jake” and Angela (Mays) Meeks, Judy (Meeks) and Jerry “Jed” Walker, Robert “Bob” and Sue (Webb) Meeks, and Cecil and Kim (Thompson) Meeks.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold “Shorty” Lee and Nellie (Archer) Meeks; sister, Betty Meeks -Eubank Fallon; and two grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 17 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the Oaktown United Methodist Church with funeral services beginning at 12:00 PM with Harley Archer officiating. He will be laid to rest at Oaktown Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Oaktown Youth Foundation or the Oaktown Fire Department.
