A Huntingburg police officer shot a suspect Tuesday afternoon.  The man was hospitalized in serious condition after the incident.

Indiana State Police report that a Huntingburg City Officer received a message on social media at 2 on Tuesday afternoon.  A man asked the officer to meet him at League Stadium.  The department had been to other recent calls from the same person so the officer asked a supervisor to accompany him to the meeting.

When the officer got to the parking lot of the stadium, the man was standing in the middle of the lot holding what looked to be a gun.  State Police say the officer gave several commands for the weapon to be place on the ground.  The gun was raised toward the officer and both officers fired at the man and he was hit several times.  They immediately called an ambulance and the unnamed suspect was taken to Memorial Hospital in Jasper and later to St. Mary’s in Evansville in serious condition.  The officers were uninjured.  State Police continue to investigate.  The names of the suspect and the officers have been released.
