The Vincennes School Board held a mortgage burning ceremony last night to celebrate paying off the debt on the new Lincoln High School.
Former School Board members Charlie Vieck and Jim Murphy who served on the board and supported construction of the new high school were given the honor of buring the mortgage.
Retired Lincoln High School Principal Jim Pittman recalled that there were many in the community who didn’t see the need for a new building and that it was going to cost too much to build the new facility out on Hart Street.

Former School Board Member Jeff Kolb says the construction bonds paid for more than just the new high school. Through sound management, Kolb says they were able to refinance the bonds which provided additional capital for technology upgrades at the old Clark Middle School and the elementary schools. The temporary classrooms at Tecumseh-Harrison were torn down and a new classroom addition was added onto the building. Kolb says they were also able to add restrooms and a new concession stand at Inman Field.
