Knox County Commissioners talk about “lost” road and repairs to the Probation Dept. roof

A few Knox County residents are concerned about their road being “lost”.

County Commissioner Donny Halter says in 2013 the county was short on money so they decided to close roads that weren’t traveled very often, in rural parts of the county.

However a few roads slipped through the cracks.

Tim Ellerman and Jamie Lisma spoke out saying the road they live on is in such disrepair several people have damaged their cars driving on it.

The road is in Donny Halters district, he says the whole matter of the road being completely closed is a misunderstanding.

Halter says they will revisit the ordinance and drive the  roads to see which ones need, and are able to be closed.

Halter also says if anyone sustained damages to their vehicles driving the lost road they can file a claim to seek reimbursements.

The Knox County Probation Department’s roof is in severe disrepair.

Several parts of the building have been leaking, and some people even have buckets in their office.

County Commissioner President Larry Holscher says the issue came to light this fall, when they were looking into sealing the building off from bats.

The building is older and has a slate roof, which has caused the two bids the county has received to be vastly different.

The county has a bid for 100,00 dollars and Holscher says they are trying to keep it as close to that price as possible, because they know can pay for it at that price.

Although they have 2 bids Holscher comments they’ve  made a motion to ask for a 3rd.

Holscher and the rest of the commissioners would like to get the project done this spring.
