Vincennes Council elects new leadership for 2016

City Council member Shirley Rose was elected City Council President Monday while Councilman Tim Salters was elected Vice President

 

Last night was the first City Council meeting of the year.

Brian Grove, Dan Ravellette and Jim Westfall all took their seats for the first time as City Council members.

Shirley Rose was chosen to be President of the council, nominated by Duane Chattin.

Rose says she is excited to work with new council members.

Elected as Vice President was Tim Salters, he was nominated by new comer Brian Grove.

Salters says he is excited to take on this important roll as well as the challenges that come along with it.

Salters says he has a lot of new ideas that he is excited to introduce this year, which he hopes will get a positive response

 

 


 

Last night The Board of Works approved the deeding of Kimmel park from the city to Vincennes University.

They also approved the contract that relocates the Vincennes Boat Club to Pearl City.

Mayor Joe Yochum says he’s excited for renovations to begin.

The Boat Club will have a 99 year lease with the city, they are completely moved out of the old club house.

Yohcum says he isn’t sure when construction will start because the river has been high due to recent precipitation, he says he believes VU will get started as soon as possible.
