A judge has sentenced a Bedford teen to 65 years for fatally beating a Lawrence County man at his rural home with two other young assailants.

Eighteen-year-old Dillon Hicks was sentenced Monday under terms of a plea agreement.

Hicks will serve 55 years for murder and 10 years for conspiracy to commit burglary count, with five years suspended to supervised probation.

Forty-three-year-old Rodney Allender was killed in February 2014. An autopsy determined he died from blunt force trauma to the head.

Buffy Jackson, Allender’s sister, told Hicks he has “hurt so many people that can never be fixed.”

The two others — who also were teens at the time of the crimes — also have pleaded guilty in the case and have received sentences of 55 years and 65 years.
