Vincennes Fire Investigators have ruled the cause of an early morning fire at an apartment complex accidental. Firefighters were called to 1513 McKinley Avenue shortly after four o’ clock this morning to a report of a fire.

Battalion Chief Tony Jarrell says the fire was located in a unit on the second floor of the building. Firefighters made entry into the apartment and extingushed the blaze in short order.

According Jarrell, one of the tenants in the apartment had left a pan of grease on the oven unattended and it caught fire. The occupant of the apartment Alexandria Lanning was injured while attempting to put out the fire. She was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital and later transferred to the Burns Center at Eskenazi (Es-ken-ah-zee) Hospital in Indianapolis. All of the other occupants of the apartment building managed to get out safely.

Jarrell estimates damage to the apartment unit at 50-thousand dollars. The building is owned by Brad Dale.
