Today, Indiana State Police arrested a mother of two for allegedly deceiving two Sullivan County charities of numerous items. She was arrested this morning at 11:45 after turning herself in to ISP at the Sullivan County Jail.

Arrested:                     Laken Rochelle Lewis, age 23, of Linton, IN.

Charge:                     Deception (1) count, A misdemeanor

On December 15, 2015, representatives of the Christmas for Kids in Sullivan County and the Sons of Honor charities, contacted the Indiana State Police at Putnamville requesting an investigation into allegations of deception. The investigation determined that Ms. Lewis informed the charity she was helping a family suffering with cancer and needed Christmas gifts for the young children. The Christmas for Kids in Sullivan County and the Sons of Honor responded by providing toys, groceries, household items, and quilts. Soon after providing the items, the charity grew suspicious and contacted authorities. The ISP investigation revealed Ms. Lewis allegedly used the ruse to obtain gifts for her own children. This all occurred in the days leading up to December 15.

The case was investigated by ISP Detective First Sergeant Jason Fajt. Assisting were Sullivan County Prosecutor John Springer.
