Brian Joseph Abel, 53, Vincennes, passed away Saturday, December 12, 2015 at his home. Brian was born September 5, 1962, in Vincennes, the son of Howard “Bill” and Betty (Qualkenbush) Abel. He married Jennifer Burkhardt on July 25, 1992. Brian was employed by Sunrise Coal for 2 years and was a underground coal miner for 15 years. He was a member of the Sons of the Legion, Sons of the Legion Mens Auxiliary, VFW, Moose Lodge, and the 40 et 8. He loved to play golf, especially with his best friends, Doug “Hank”, Kevin, and Myrel. He was also a devoted husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend. Brian was loved by so many people and was a loving kind, spirited guy who would help anyone and never met a stranger.
Brian is survived by his wife, Jennifer; son, Logan Abel of Vincennes; his dog, Sissy; sisters, Janice (Doug) Fehlinger of Vincennes, Angie (Rick) Hobson of St. Anthony, and Cindy Wright of Vincennes; brothers, Jim (Birdie) Abel of Vincennes, Jerry (Gladys) Abel of Washington, IL, Dwain (Kathy) Abel of Vincennes, Roger (Debbie) Abel of Vincennes, Greg (Gaye) Abel of Vincennes, and Kevin (Lorrie) Abel of Vincennes; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Betty; and brother-in-law, David Wright.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, December 15, 2015 from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Fredrick and Son McClure-Utt Funeral Home Vincennes Chapel, 313 Church St. A second visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 16, 2015 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM also at the funeral home with funeral services beginning immediately at 12:00 PM with Pastor Howard Dick officiating.
