Plans to revitalize downtown Vincennes is in stage 1.

At last night’s Board of Works meeting,  the contracts with the e consultants over the project were signed.

Development Specialist with Southern Indiana Development Corporation,  Matt Sward says a grant will focus on Main Street from 1st to 11th.

The next step in the process is to discuss the scope of  the work and appoint a steering committee.

Sward says it’s about a 10 month process to put the plan together.

He says there will be public hearing as part of the draft plan before they send the draft up to the state for approval.

Under a new ordinance, landlords in the city will pay five dollars per rental building a year and fifty dollars for the inspection of each unit every 4 years for apartment complexes and every 2 years for house conversions.

Land lord Tom Smith, who owns about 60 units, says this will cause him to pay more money then under the previous ordinance.

Mayor Joe Yochum says he feels most landlords will be saving money.

If  landlords are concerned Mayor Yochum advises them to stop by the city inspector’s office to get a copy of the ordinance and talk with the inspector about just how much they will be paying personally.
