Vincennes Police Chief Dusty Luking wants to restart a reserve officer program.

He says it would allow him to put another 10 officers on city streets.

The Vincennes Sun Commercial says Luking has been looking to reinstate the program formed through an ordinance under former Mayor Terry Mooney’s administration.

Luking said he’s working with the merit commission and thinks they are close to taking applications.

The commission would interview the potential reserve officers and the ones selected would under extensive training with an existing officer before they would be allowed to act alone
