A southern Indiana man is facing charges after allegedly drafting fake hunting licenses.

Conservation police report that 36-year-old Samual Hughes of French Lick was arrested Monday and taken to the Orange County Jail charged with felony theft.

Officers responded to a trespassing complaint at the French Lick Resort where they learned multiple hunters from Michigan and other states had paid Hughes for a one year hunting lease.  Investigators say Hughes never had permission to lease the properties and had drafted the written contracts with the unsuspecting  out of state hunters for fees of over a thousand dollars.

After a search warrant and a search of Hughes cell phone, Hughes allegedly admitted to the crimes.  The investigation continues.

Hughes owns Nature’s Ridge Whitetail’s Outfitters.
