The Vincennes School Corporation is looking to do a complete makeover of its elementary schools. During a public hearing last night at Franklin Elementary, architect Andy Myszak unveiled the plans which calls for extensive renovations at Franklin, Vigo and Tecumseh-Harrison.

While they wouldn’t be adding any additional classroom space, Myszak says the existing rooms would undergo remodeling and include new furnishings along with new windows and more vibrant colors.

New entrances are also planned for Franklin, Vigo and Tecumseh-Harrison that would blend in with the existing school structures. Parking would also be reconfigured at all three schools to make dropping off and picking up students less congested.

Myszak says Riley Elementary which is in the best shape of the four elementary schools will also undergo some renovations as well.

School  Corporation Superintendent Greg Parsley says the estimated price tag for the renovations is 36 and a-half million dollars. He says that’s cheaper then building a new elementary school which is estimated to cost around 50-million dollars.

If the community is on board with the project, Parsley says they would begin work next year.

For those who missed last night’s public forum. There will be another one next Wednesday at Riley Elementary at 6 pm.
