One in three women and one in six men worldwide experience some form of sexual violence in their life.

Last night, students, staff, and community member of Vincennes took a stand against sexual violence and assault on the VU campus.

Community Leaders and activist spoke at the event, encouraging students to take a stand against sexual violence.

After the speeches, people grabbed their glow sticks and walked the track of the VU Rec Center chanting “No, means no, take back the night.”

Director of the local organization Hope’s Voice, Jan Dotson, says this is the first time a “Take Back the Night” event has taken place in Knox County, and that it’s important to spread the word.

She hopes this event helped students understand they are important when it comes to stopping sexual assault.

Organizers hope last night’s event informed students about the issue and encourage them to report sexual assaults if they happen to them or to someone they know
