Knox County Librarian Brian Spangle is a proud Author. Spangle’s first book titled “Vincennes History You Don’t Know” will be available for sale at the Library this Saturday.

Spangle says the book is a compilation of his column called “Our Times” which appears in the Vincennes Sun-Commercial.  Spangle says he started working on the book this spring which chronicles event in the city’s history from 1890 forward.

Spangle says the toughest part was choosing from among the 880 articles which he has written in the past 16-years. The articles touch on a wide variety of topics such as the Burchfield Department store fire in 1926, the Greek Candy Kitchen and noted celebrities who’ve visited the city.

The Knox County Library Board agreed to front the money to have Spangle’s book published. The book is for sale for 25-dollars with the proceeds benefiting the library. Spangle will be autographing copies of the book during the Southern Indiana Writers’ Festival from 12 to 2 pm in the Main Library.

The Knox County Public Library will be getting new energy efficient lighting. The library board signed a contract Tuesday with Bee Fit, Incorporated to install 219 new L-E-D lights

Owner of the company Tony Cabello says the new lighting should result in a saving of 66-hundred dollars annually and 33-thousand over 5-years.

Cabello added that Duke Energy will give the library a re-bate of just over 10-thousand, 500 dollars for installing the lighting. That will reduce the library’s initial cost to just 13-thousand dollars.

Board members also approved a low bid from Junod Painting to paint the exterior of the Library’s Meeting House at the corner of 6th and Hart Streets.  Junod’s bid of 76-hundred dollars was 32-hundred dollars less than a bid from Greg Lane.

Library Maintenance Director John Houchins says work on painting the house should start within the next 10-days.
