The mother of a teenage boy who died from binge drinking spoke with Vincennes University students Thursday about the state’s Life Line Law.

Passed in 2012, the Life Line Law encourages students to call for medical help in emergency situations. The law also offers underage drinkers immunity and legal protection from certain alcohol related offenses.

Dawn Finbloom’s son Brett was 18-years when he died after consuming too much alcohol at an underage party. Brett’s friends who were also minors waited and debated too long before calling for help.

Brett’s death occurred about a month after the law was enacted.

Since then Finbloom has been on a campaign to educate students about the law and the dangers of binge drinking.

Finbloom has been crisscrossing the state along with the bill’s sponsor State Senator Jim Merritt to inform students on just how important the law is.

She says in case of an emergency don’t hesitate to call 9-1-1.
