Protect yourself from identify theft

The Indiana Attorney General’s Office is calling on Hoosiers to protect their personal information from Identity Theft.

Amy Wardlow, is an Outreach Services Specialist with the Attorney General’s office. She told members of the Knox County Chamber of Commerce Wednesday that the first step consumers should take is to keep their personal information locked up. She added that you should never carry your Social Security Card with you.

Wardlow says Hoosiers also have the right to have a security freeze placed on their credit report. She says that can prevent an identity thief from opening a new account or obtaining credit in your name.

A credit freeze also keeps new creditors from accessing your credit report without your permission. Wardlow says any Indiana resident can request a credit freeze free of charge
