An armed robbery suspect led police on a chase through several counties before shooting himself.

An armed robbery occurred Monday in New Albany and the suspect was believed to be driving a silver sedan.  At 7 last night there was a report of someone breaking into a shed at a Corydon trailer park.  The male was believed to be the robbery suspect.  When a deputy responded, the suspect was leaving the scene and verbal attempts to stop him were unsuccessful.

The suspect then fled in the sedan on State Road 135 then west on I64.  State, local and conservation officers all joined in the chase that reached speeds of 115 miles an hour and went through Perry and into Dubois Counties.

Tire deflation devices were used but it wasn’t until the car was in the Ferdinand area when a Ferdinand officer managed to flatten one tire. The suspect then got back onto I64 at the Ferdinand exit and headed east  The rest of the tires were flattened by a  deputy who deployed more stop sticks at the 72 mile marker in Perry County.  That’s when police say the suspect slowed to cross the median in a paved crossover and shot himself.  He was pronounced dead at the scene.
