Vincennes City officials are moving quickly to tear down a building they say is a public safety hazard.

The City’s Board of Works on Wednesday  awarded a contract to Klenck company of Evansville to raze a building at the corner of Main and 4th Streets.

Mayor Joe Yochum says the building is in danger of collapsing at anytime.

Tim Klenck, President of the demolition company says crews have already been inside the building doing some preliminary work prior to work getting underway next week..

Klenck’s bid of 205-thousand, 700 dollars was the only bid received for the work.

Yochum says once the building has been torn down a lien will be placed on the property to ensure that the city recovers their cost for the demolition work should it be sold.

Vincennes officials have been assured by Klenck that primary demolition of the building should be completed prior to the annual Lincoln High School Homecoming parade and festivities downtown.
