Helen Ann (Fisher) Schuckman

Helen Ann (Fisher) Schuckman passed away on Saturday evening, September 5th.  She was born on February 28, 1928 to Raymond and Bessie (Callam) Fisher in Lawrence County, near Russellville, Illinois. She had one older brother, Eugene Fisher who passed in 1971.  She had one older sister, Bettie who died at birth.In her youth, Helen worshiped atthe Rising Sun Christian Church and attended Miller School, a one room school house in Lawrence County for her elementary grades.In 1946 she graduated from Lincoln High School in Vincennes.Prior to marriage, Helen worked at Gimble-Bond, Kresge’s Five and Dime, and the Brown Shoe Factory.

 

Helen married Paul R. Schuckman on April 27th, 1947 in Vincennes at Reel Avenue Church.  They were married for 68 years.  Helen and Paul had two daughters. Karen Redmond with husband Steven living in Allentown, PA, and Rita Condrawho passed in 1998, her husband David now married to Karen living in New Albany, IN.  Paul & Helen have 3 grandchildren, Stacey Waring with husband Jeff, Dusty Condra with wife Joanna, and Kristina Redmond, plus 4 great-grandchildren Zachary, Nathan, Julia, and Caroline.

 

Helen was a member of Fortnightly for over 30 years,Town and Country Homemakers for over 50 years, Town and County Garden Club, Traveler’s Protective Association (TPA), Parent Teachers Association (PTA), and in the later years she was active in the Northwestern Territory Genealogy Society and the Vincennes Historical Antiquarian Society.

 

She had been a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ for over 6 decades.  She had been involved with St. John’s Paul Class and other church activities.  Helen’s greatest joys in her life were her family, taking photos, cooking, arranging flowers, and genealogy.Visitation will be Saturday September 12th starting at 10am and Memorial Service will be at 11am at St. John’s United Church of Christ in Vincennes at the corner of Hart St. and 5th Street.  Services will be performed by Rev. Katie Lambertson and Pastor Garth Whewell.  Interment will be at a later date at Bethel Cemetery in Freelandville.  Inlieu of flowers, donations can be sent to Rising Sun Christian Church, R.R. 2, Box 278A, Lawrenceville, IL 62439, or to St. John’s United Church of Christ, 606 N. 5th St., Vincennes, IN  47591.
