The Vincennes Township Fire Department recently received statewide recognition for its efforts in providing Basic Life Support Services. The designation came during the Indiana Emergency Response conference held in Indianapolis.

Fire Chief Tim Smith says the department has added a new tool called LUCAS which provides mechanical CPR to victims of sudden cardiac arrest. The new tool allows the patient to receive consistent and uninterrupted chest compressions. The department has also initiated a public access defibrillation program that places automatic external defibrillators in public places for lay people to use,

Smith added that firefighters have completed Pre-Hospital Trauma Life support certification.
