The opening of a new dog park in Vincennes is just a few weeks away. Knox County Parks Superintendent Rhama Sobahni says they are waiting on some locks that have been ordered to keep the dogs enclosed…they’ll be ready for business.

In order to use the dog park, Vincennes Animal Control Director Laura Arial says they must register their animal at their office.

The dog park is located in Hillcrest Park and there is no fee involved for using the facility. Two large chain link fences have been constructed one for smaller dogs and the other for larger animals.

Arial says Pet Owners will be responsible for controlling their dog within the confines of the park.

Sobhani says this something that the community has asked for and he expects the dog park to get a lot of use.

The Knox County Parks Department is adding some new playground equipment at Wabash Trails Park. Superintendent Rama Sobhani says the new playground set will be located on the upper level of the park. He hopes that it will generate more use of the shelter houses on the upper loop.

Sobhani says they removed a wooden play set a few years back that was in bad shape and since then traffic had fallen off. He says the new playground set is the form of a ship and includes a slide that kids can use. The new play set was purchased for 29-hundred dollars.

Sobhani added the parks department will also be doing some staining and sealing of buildings located within the park.
