Rental housing laws are changing

for-rent

Due  changes in state law, rental housing in Vincennes will most likely be facing some ordinance changes. Under old law  landlords were only required to pay $20 for both the registration of their property and the inspection by the City Inspector.  City Attorney David Roellgen says those fees will be different

Roellgen the reason for the changes is so that cities wouldn’t be able to profit off of landlords. If a property owner chooses to use their own inspector they must be certified.  That inspector’s qualifications must also be given to the city as well as proof of the inspection. The only cities s in the state of Indiana that were opted out of this change were Bloomington and West Lafayette.  The Vincennes City Council will review the ordinance changes and decide later on approval.
