Vincennes historian Richard Day speaks on Aug. 20 to the Vincennes Civitan
Club about plans to honor Vincennes’ founder, Sieur de Vincennes, a Frence
Marine officer, by erecting a statue at the intersection of Main St. and
Culbertson Blvd. Day is a member of a committee that is currently seeking
to raise $53,000 so the statue can be completed in 2016 during Indiana’s
Bicentennial. Artist Bill Wolfe, West Terre Haute,  has sculpted the
statue, which can be seen at the Knox County Public Library, and once funds
are raised in will be cast in bronze and prepared for its placement along
the Heritage Trail adjacent to the Wabash River. Contributions may be sent
to (and made payable to) the Knox County Community Foundation, P.O. Box
273, Vincennes, IN 47591.
