The Knox County Housing Authority is among the agencies which continue to suffer as the result of spending cuts made at the federal budget.

Spokeswoman Linda Painter told 8th District Congressman Larry Bucshon last night that the Housing Authority is receiving only 79-percent of the money they normally would. Being a rural community, Painter says those cuts are not easily absorbed.

While sympathizing with her plight, Bucshon says until congress is able to come together and address the larger problems with the federal budget they are probably going to continue to receive less funding.

He explained that 60 percent of the budget is made up of mandatory spending while 40 percent is discretionary spending which includes funding that goes to local housing authorities.

Buchson says he supports a balanced budget amendment to force the federal government to live within their means. Bucshon made his comments during a town hall meeting in Vincennes last night.
