Enrollment and the budget were the topics at today’s North Knox School Board session

ENROLLMENT

Despite graduating a large senior class North Knox Superintendent Darrel Bobe is pleased overall with the school corporation’s enrollment. Bobe acknowledged that while the numbers are down slightly from a year ago, there wasn’t a significant drop-off.

He says the numbers are in a state of flux right now and could change between now and the official count day in late September.

Bobe says total enrollment stands at 13-hundred students. He says they are seeing smaller numbers in the kindergarten class, but expects those numbers to jump back up next year.


BUDGET

 

The North Knox School Board held a public hearing on the school corporation’s budget this morning.

Superintendent Darrel Bobe says the state has slashed the school corporation’s budget by a 600-thousand dollars compared to a year ago. Despite the cutbacks Bobe says that won’t impact curriculum or lead to any teachers being laid off.

Bobe says the loss in funding doesn’t make sense too him, but that’s the situation their faced with.

The tax rate for the school corporation is set at just over 43 centers per 100 dollars assessed valuation which is the lowest of any school corporation in the area, according to Bobe.

He says the total budget is 19-million dollars. No one from the public appeared at this morning’s hearing to speak for or against the budget which is expected to be adopted at the school board’s meeting in September.
