City budget hearings get underway

budget-2

It was the first night for Vincennes City Budget hearings at city hall Wednesday night.  All ran very smoothly with no surprises.

The Vincennes Police Department and Vincennes Fire Department are typically the budgets with issues, but the budgets were in good shape. VPD is now able to start their 1st class patrol officer out at $40,000 a year. Which has made the turn over rate for officers much lower. The Fire Department will be getting new Breathing Apparatuses due to a recall. The recall would cover the cost of replacing the defective equipment, but for $600 more the Fire Department can upgrade it’s equipment which is what the city has opted to do. There will be a 3% salary increases for all full time city workers

. Although it’s only night one of the budget hearings, Councilman Duane Chattin says the budget outlooks are positive.

The second round of Budget hearings will be tonight at Vincennes City Hall From 4 PM to 6 PM.
