A Friday morning fire at an apartment building in Vincennes has been ruled as arson.
Fire Chief Sonny Pinkstaff says Vincennes Police were first to arrive on the scene at 617 N. 7th Street. Officers report smoke and a small amount of fire coming from the apartment located in the back of the building.
Pinkstaff says the building was evacuated while firefighters worked to put out the fire. He says they were able to contain the fire and extinguish it within minutes of arriving on the scene.
Occupants were allowed to return after the fire was put out and officials had cleared the building.
Pinkstaff says the occupant of the apartment wasn’t home when the fire occurred. There were no injuries. The building is owned by Jerry Coonrod of Vincennes.
Investigators from the State Fire Marshals Office along with the Vincennes Fire Department the fire as arson.
