Indiana Landmarks presented the Knox County Public Library in Vincennes with the Western Region Preservation Award last evening. The award was presented for the library’s interior rehabilitation of the main level of the historic Carnegie library. The newly renovated area will soon be home to the library’s youth department. The award was presented by Tommy Kleckner of Indiana Landmarks to library board President Thelma Morrison and Director Emily Bunyan. Bunyan states it has always been a goal of the library to refurbish the youth department.

The $230,000 rehabilitation included restoring original features of the 1919 gothic building that had been obscured for decades. New systems and technologies have been added as well. Bunyan says the new youth department is expected to be open within a month from now.
