James A. Wilson, 76, of Vincennes, passed away at 12:42 pm Sunday July 19, 2015 at Daviess Community Hospital.

He was born March 5, 1939 in Bicknell to William Owen and V. LoRay (Cornelison) Wilson

James retired as a Chief Petty Officer from the Naval Reserve and had also served in the Marines for four years. While in the reserve he flew the VP-60 sub hunters and was part of the battle group that forced an Akula Class sub to the surface for the first time, and had a few close encounters with Soviet MIGs as he has a picture of a MIG 21 off the wing of their P-3 Orion and was proud to have a flag flown over the USS Iowa. He had also served as a Knox County Deputy Sheriff for 11 years.

He was an avid shooter who was on the Indiana University shooting team and loved playing poker.

Surviving is his wife, Trudi (Mayo) Wilson, whom he married on August 25, 1963; his children, Jana Ruppel of Vincennes, Jamie Chioda of Vicksburg MI, Jason (Lori) Wilson of Vincennes, Jon (companion Danielle) of Reston, WV, Jill (companion Brian) of Cleveland OH, Joshua (Jamie) Wilson of Phoenix AZ, Jarrod (Katelyn) of Indianapolis, and Joyce Wilson of Vincennes; a sister Paula Allen of Scottsdale, AZ; along with 10 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Preceding him in death are his father William Owen Wilson and his mother and step father, V. LoRay and Paul Tewalt; and his sister, Lynn Murray.

Funeral services will be held at 6:30 pm Thursday July 23, 2015 at Goodwin Funeral Home with Rev. Faye Bilskie officiating. Burial will be held at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 pm until the service on Thursday. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart or Diabetes Association.
