A woman suffering from an apparent drug overdose found herself stranded on the railroad tressel bridge just west of 1st and Hart Streets yesterday.

Vincennes police say the woman whose name was not released walked out on the bridge and then proceeded to climb down onto one of the concrete pads underneath the bridge.

Battalion Chief Tony Jarrell says the woman was unresponsive and there was concern that she might fall into the river.

Jarrell says the woman was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital to get checked out. Vincennes and V-U Police assisted in rescuing the woman.

Jarrell says the Knox County Emerngecy Management Agency had a rescue boat standing by in the event firefighters needed the craft to rescue the woman.

The fire department currently doesn’t have a rescue boat of its own. But Jarrell says the department is looking to raise funds in the near future to purchase two boats.
