The public is invited to a July 23 Community Open House to say farewell to Vincennes University President Dick Helton and his wife Cindy. The reception will be from 4 to 6 p.m. at VU’s Green Activities Center.

Following 11 years as VU’s President, Helton announced on May 27 that he was retiring effective July 31 so that he and Cindy could move to Cleveland to lend support to their daughter who faces health challenges.

Among Indiana’s public institutions for higher education, Helton is currently the state’s longest serving president. Under his leadership VU’s system-wide headcount enrollment surpassed 19,000 students last fall, marking eight years of continuous growth. He has also led a growing number of partnerships with major employers, secondary schools and career centers, armed forces, and communities.
