A Gibson County town is studying whether to lower the legal age at which people can drive golf carts through the rural community.

Haubstadt’s town council discussed a proposal Monday to lower the town’s golf cart age limit from 18 to 16. A local resident told the council his daughter was recently pulled over on her golf cart because she’s not 18.

Town Marshal Glenn Munnier told the council he doesn’t see any problem with making the age 16, since that’s the age at which youths can get a driver’s license.

Town council President Kenny Reinbrecht says the council will reviews records “to see if there’s a legitimate reason” for the golf cart age limit.
