Knox County Democratic Precinct Committeeman will gather Saturday to name a replacement for Knox County Councilman Steve Thais. Party officials will caucus at 9 am at Vincennes City Hall.

At least six candidates are seeking to fill Thais’ unexpired term on the council. The group includes former Knox Superior Court-One Judge Tim Crowley, Vincennes Firefighter Tony Jarrell, David Shelton who is a member of the Knox County Housing Authority, Former Knox County United Way Director Bob Murawski, Thomas Peters, a resident of Harrison Township, and Brian Downen who ran unsuccessfully last fall for a seat on the council.

The candidates will have the opportunity to speak to the Democratic Precinct Committeeman prior to the first vote being cast.

Thais died in a tree trimming accident on his property last month after serving on the county council for over 10-years. His seat is up for reelection next year.
