Carol Hamner named Spirit of 76 winner

The Vincennes Fourth of July committee has announced that his year’s Spirit of 76 Award winner is  Mr. Carroll Hamner.

Vincennes Mayor Joe Yochum  said Hamner’s dedication and commitment truly exemplifies the ‘Spirit of ‘76’!”  He added that Hamner’s volunteer spirit and considerable philanthropy has been making Vincennes and Knox County a better place to live for many years.

Hamner has been involved in the Vincennes Civitan Club for 50 years.  For almost 30 years he’s organized Civitan Members throughout the state to present the track and field awards at the Special Olympic Summer Games at ISU.  He’s also been a chair of the Vincennes University Society program.  In 2004 he was the recipient of a “Lifetime Achievement Award” from the Association of Fundraising Professionals Indiana Chapter.

Hamner has also held top leadership positions with the Knox County Relay For Life, Knox County Association for Retarded Citizens, Salvation Army, YMCA, St. John’s Lutheran Church, United Way of Knox County, Knox County American Red Cross, Vincennes Chamber of Commerce, Knox Count on Aging, Twin Rivers Vocational Training Board, Special Olympics and Community Steering Committee for Riley Hospital for Children.
