Southwest Regional Logistics Council released transportation proposals

The Southwest Regional Logistics Council has released a nearly 60 page proposal on improving transportation in 18 counties in Southwest Indiana.

The council is made up of high level logistics executives in air, rail, truck, water, infrastructure, manufacturing, and warehouse/distribution..  The proposal is being presented to the governor and legislature in an effort to inform them what the council believes is needed in the area of transportation improvement for existing business and new economic development as well for safety and traffic flow needs.

The council suggested about 3 billion dollars worth of improvements in the 18 county region.  According to the Vincennes Sun Commerical, there were two improvements suggested for Knox County including..

Improving Willow Street, or Indiana 441 from South 6th out to the U.S. 41 exchange.

The plan calls adding another lane to prevent congestion at a cost of 30 million dollars.

Another  other project would be to improve and expand Old Decker Road into the U.S. 41 Industrial Park.

Also the council proposed eliminating  all the stop lights between Knox County and Interstate 64  on 41.

The proposal  did not mention much about funding the projects  It would be up to the state to move them forward possibly with local matches or private industry putting up some money.  The work would be decades in the making.
