WAKO is in September's Chamber Member Spotlight
WAKO AM/FM celebrated its 50th year in broadcasting on June 9th 2009. The Lawrenceville Broadcasting Co. Inc. has been under the same family ownership since 1959. WAKO AM 910 was joined by WAKO 103.1 FM in March of 1964. Over the past 50 years numerous local people who still reside in the area were employed by the station who chose different careers and other moved into larger markets. From playing commercials on 78 rpm records, on two inch reel to reel tapes, two track cart machines to computers the past 50 years have seen numerous technical changes. The most being the computer. However at WAKO AM /FM we are trying to keep the LOCAL in local radio programming. WAKO is the only radio station in this area that is manned 100 percent of the time. We have a real heart beat behind the microphone at all times. Announcers select their own music, plays the commercials per the program log and are responsible for the program. Being a live local radio station provides our listeners with real time local news, weather, and sports. Everyone at WAKO takes great pride in serving this area and we will continue to strive in the future to make you proud to have a LIVE – LOCAL radio station to serve your needs.
