Prescription drug “take back day” hosted at LCMH

  • The American Medical Association (AMA) has declared that August 30th is Opioid Misuse Prevention Day. The goal of this day is to raise awareness that prescription opioids can be addictive and dangerous. It encourages prevention efforts to combat the opioid crisis.
  • The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) showed 2,779 drug-related overdose deaths during 2017. This represents a 76 percent increase over the 1,579 drug-related overdose deaths reported in 2013.
  • The Lawrence County Drug Coalition hosted a prescription drug “take back day” at the Lawrence County Memorial Hospital Primary Care Clinic.
  • The Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department was able to collect two large
    trash bags full of the unwanted drugs, which were to be properly disposed
    of by law enforcement.
