April is IBS Awareness Month

  • Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) is a fairly common disease that strikes anywhere between 10% and 15% of the general population – so there is no need to feel like you’re suffering alone.
  • The month of April is recognized as IBS awareness month.
  • At Lawrence County Memorial Hospital they are prepared to help you with preventative and treatments. The hospital maintains a part-time registered dietitian to meet your dietary needs during your hospital stay. Outpatient nutrition services are also available by the clinical dietitian upon physician referral.
  • Here are some guidelines for those with IBS:
    • Make sure the majority of food eaten is homemade or fresh.
    • Keep a diary of everything you eat in order to understand what triggers symptoms.
