COVID-19 CASES INCREASE IN COUNTY

The Illinois Department of Public Health reported 1,319 new confirmed cases of coronavirus across the state with only 1 confirmed death-that in Wayne County in southeastern Illinois. The Lawrence County Health Department has been notified of 5 cases of the disease Monday. Three of those are county residents-a female age 29, a male age 27 and a female age 67 and all are related. The other 2 cases are two out of state residents who tested positive here in Lawrence County and are under quarantine here-a female under age 38 and a male age 12. The LCHD has begun contact tracing. With those new cases, that brings the county total to 55. 9 of those are active and 46 have recovered. There continues to be no hospitalizations and deaths. Meanwhile cases continue to rise in other surrounding counties-37 in Wabash County, 31 in Crawford, 62 in Wayne, 23 in Clay and 22 in Richland. Overall the IDPH reports there have been 195,399 cases of the disease and 7,637 deaths since the pandemic began.
