The 2020 Indianapolis 500 will be held without fans for the first time in it’s history. The Indianapolis Motor Speedway made the announcement Tuesday. The decision was made due to growing health and safety concerns surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic. IMS had originally planned to hold the race at a 50% maximum capacity, but since then positive cases of the virus in Marion County Indiana have tripled and the positivity rate has doubled. It will be the first time in it’s 109 years that the race will not have fans in the grandstands around the 2.5 mile oval to watch  live. The 500 is scheduled for Sunday August 23rd.
