The Bridgeport City Council met in regular in-person session Tuesday evening at City Hall. They discussed passing a future resolution covering the closing of the Hollyhock Road railroad crossing by CSX, the Illinois Commerce Commission and the Illinois Department of Transportation. Those entities will pay the city a total of $65,000 to close the crossing instead of making repairs to it. Use for the $65,000 has yet to be determined. There will be a public hearing regarding the matter prior to the June council session. An update was given on the Main Street greenspace property which now belongs to the city. The Parks Committee is looking at fencing, benchs, and trees for the area, but no firm design plans have been decided upon. City Superintendent Shannon Selby reported on city lagoon work and also indicated that new city water meters are being installed at residences. The council did hold an executive session after which they did approve the employee salary increases that were discussed. The city will host the Red Hill High School Class of 2020 graduation parade set for 2 p.m. beginning at Lanterman Park and winding through city streets.
